Párkányi Quartet

In 1976, István Párkányi, Heinz Oberdorfer and Ferdinand Erblich, together with cellist Stefan Metz, formed the Orlando String Quartet. After many international prizes and a glorious career István Párkányi decided in 1984 to go his own way, but since 1998 the three original members are together again with a new cellist, Michael Müller, to revive their old passion, now under the name Párkányi Quartet.

All four musicians have a very strong relation with the Central European music tradition because of their cultural background and their collaboration with great masters like Sandor Vegh. In the meantime the new group has again established a reputation nationally and internationally. Numerous engagements have brought the Párkányi Quartet to Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, Canada and the U.S., and they have been invited to play at the Edinburgh Festival.

Their CD-recordings, released by the Praga Digitals label of Harmonia Mundi, have received praise from experts and public alike. Since 2000 the Párkányi Quartet has been appointed at the Conservatory of Amsterdam as Quartet in Residence.
