Heinz Oberdorfer
Born in München, started to play the violin at an age of seven, went on to study at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in München and later at the Vienna Academy of Music. It was here that he laid the foundation for his later career in
chamber music, when, together with Rainer Küchl, Ferdinand Erblich and Heinrich Schiff, he formed the Academy Quartet.
From 1972 on he started his orchestral career as second concertmaster of the Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra. Later he became principal leader of the State Orchestra at Saarbrücken, where he also was primarius of his own string quartet. After 1976 he became leader in the Residentie Orkest and the radio orchestras in Holland where he had moved to become a founding member of the Orlando Quartet.
Since 1985 he has been a professor at the Arnhem Conservatory.
Heinz Oberdorfer plays on a violin by Januarius Gagliano, Napoli 1746.
